I would add Wilson onto the pluses. He was much much improved today ( which wasnt a big ask ) Interesting they stuck with him over Keane.
He’s not overly agile but he did most things right for a second gamer.
Yep, he certainly wasn't amongst our worse and held his own.
I can't believe that Callum Brown has played 50 plus games!! All the under ten games players were far more useful than him today.
How does he constantly get a game when he doesn’t have ANY, and I mean ANY impact on a game?
If he is selected next week I will not go to the match.
I am absolutely done watching local league standard players getting a game ahead of players with more skill, determination, endeavour, impact and ability.
Murphy sitting on the bench whilst Brown is once again totally ineffective is
more than I can bare any more.
Great effort by the majority of the players especially Poulter and McCreery.

It was pretty easy for him today. He didn't have Maynard passing to him.

Looking forward, it was a real positive that half our goals were kicked by players under 10 games. Well done McCreery and Poulter.
This
The team never quit
I thought we were going to be smashed
Callum should have kicked that
De Goey needs to work harder or smarter
The backward kicking cost us the game so over that crap
That said WHE was better noble brilliant Q and roughy great game Grundy earned his money lovin Beau and paulter great future
No negs from me tonight, I’m disappointed but I still took 600 shots! Cheers Go Pies and I’ll dare to believe that we just might not looked foolish next week
Oh TP you are my kind of supporter. The Buckley bashers and haters are in their element without a word about how much they tried and having a red hot
go. Bloody S-d S-cks. I for one was a extremely proud of their efforts.

Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. Just because it's dark and stormy now doesn't meant that you aren't headed for glorious sunshine!
Positives are hard to find in these tough times but I saw the following today;
1. Caleb Poulter is a good footballer not overwhelmed by the big time and the way he slotted that last goal is what we should expect from AFL players. Take note Callum Brown!!
2. Will Hoskin-Elliot is a very good footballer worth persisting with on the wing. For about 5 seasons we have been asking him to play as a third tall forward with the ability to take a big mark and hit the scoreboard but that is probably a bridge to far for WHE so it's been good to see him step up to provide some drive off the wing. Questions remain on if he has the engine to run and support defence then be an option to tranfer from defence to attack but at least he has the kicking skills to hit up leading forwards.
3. Team defence - we do well but even our defenders make some shocking mistakes that are the equivalent of shooting yourself in the foot. e.g. Roughead having his kick smothered by a diving Dixon.
4. Taylor Adams - Should be captain of the team next year. He is the reigning B&F at the club and adds leadership, toughness and skill to the team. Just hoping his body holds up under the strain of being an inside midfielder.
5. Beau McCreery - for a first year player he is showing some really positive attributes. He is relatively fast and strong so his role as a defensive forward is well suited to him. Hopefully he can continue to develop his skill set and become more active at hitting the scoreboard. His 3 goals today was just reward, pity he missed a relative sitter in the 3rd Qtr today.
6. Josh Daicos - getting better every game with his on-ball role. His decision making and disposal skills are unfortunately all too rare in this team. Here's hoping Josh continues to develop and that his brother lives up to all the hype around him.
Unfortunately there are a lot more negatives to come out of this game;
1. Pendlebury seems to have declined in his impact on games this season and most worryingly is seeing him fumble and miss disposal targets far more this season than what we have come to expect. Some footballers fall off the edge faster than others....
2. Sidebottom is still very good finding the ball but he too seems to have dropped off in his penetration of the oppositions defense. Too often he takes possession then resorts to timid disposal options.
3. Grundy was monstering the opposition ruck again and whilst he did well to hit the scoreboard today, he should be able to make his disposals count much more and as a team we need to work out how to better leverage Grundy's tap out dominance.
4. To many of our players are timid in their intent to move the ball forward at a speed that will put opposition under pressure. Main, Nobel, Sidebottom and Roughhead prefer the less risky dinky kicks sideways than to take attacking options down the guts or to leading forwards down the line. Maybe they are acting under coaches instructions but unfortunately they still make terrible decisions that hand the ball back to the opposition far too regularly in positions that are killing us. At least Moore, Quaynor, Crisp and Maynard at their best kick with some purpose to get the ball moving forward with speed.
5. Callum Brown can no longer be persevered with until he can improve his kicking penetration i.e. kick the ball more than 35 meters. It's mind blowing how a footballer can make it to the elite level with such a fail in the most important skill of the game in being able to kick. Trent Bianco and / or Nathan Murphy are bother better options to Callum as at least they can actually kick the ball even though they might not get it as much as Callum.

That's true. Bruzzy had a positive impact today, I thought, which was an improvement on last week. Pendles was actually our turnover king today, which is just downright strange
Piesnchess wrote:I wanted us to be competitive, and i got that, in spades, had a red hot go, but its heartbreaking to lose by a lousy stinking point, second time against a Finals bound team. Some fans here going off half cocked as if we lost by 111 points, as the Saints did, how would they like a thrashing like that ?? Least we had a dip, against a quality side, and our kids are coming along nicely, Poulter looks a gem.
I hear what you're saying, but a loss is a loss. And it's predictable that Buckley is coaching us to avoid a blow out loss.
The defensive game plan is lame, pathetic and just horrible to watch. We aren't returning to the finals playing like this.
So as I said, the loss is a loss. And Buckley is still the third worst coach this Club has ever had.

Going off "Half Cocked" is just utter garbage. We kicked 5 of our goals in 9 minutes of footy. First 3 goals came in the first 7 minutes and our last 2 came in a 2 minute flurry. Another 110 minutes elapsed and we kicked 3. We are coached to play crap like passing sideways, backwards and every other which other than FORWARD. DeGoey took mark early in the last on the wing and McCreery was streaming goanward in the forward line and DeGoey kicked sideways ,we lost the ball and Port scored. Most of ports goals came from our mistakes and just about every team in the league springboard OUT of our forward line and it has been like this for years. If Josh Thomas is the inspiration on keeping the ball in our forward line then I must not be able to see it.This was the same guy who let Daniel Rich get 16 last qtr kicks against the Lions and deliver the final kick that saw us sunk by a point again. I say BOLLOCKS!!!
Guess you would rather lose by 111 points as the Saints did hey genius ??
Yeah thats the way.You must be sick of eating sand. Just a win would do and just play football like every other team can. We are poorly coached and the entire coaching staff need to be let go. We've kicked 13goals in 2 full games of football and 12 of them have come in less than 20 minutes of 240 minutes of football.Get your head out of the sand pit and let that sink in for a while and then you can give some thought to our "Small Forwards" in Thomas and Brown and count the goals they've kicked this year. 3 is the answer and that's between them and McCreery has tripled his tally of both of them. I may not be a genius but I seem to be brighter than you it would seem.
And if we won the game by a lousy point youd be jumping for joy on here hey i bet you would. So, you would rather a massive annihilation than a one point loss, jeezus, NO you are not very bright at all. Im as disappointed as anyone, but i can see positives, like our kids an our backline.Sure we made errors, but Port are supposedly a top four team, so to only scrape in by one point, they must have made a lot of clangers too, how come thier forward line only managed 8 goals too ????? for the whole damn game ? ????

This game showed how important Tay Adams is to our team and its competitiveness. Suddenly we were not scorched through the midfield...
Fantastic to see Beau McCreery and Caleb Poulter developing so well, and I think Tom Wilson shows some real potential. He is athletic, moves so well, and throws himself into contests. He also showed on a couple of occasions the ability to think fast and make an effective decision.
I thought Grundy had a turning point game. I hope that this is a real turning point and he starts impacting games in a real manner like he did today.
Pendles, the great champion, is no longer at the peak of his powers. He is no longer adding those key sparks of brilliance that gave chains of football a touch of magic, and ended in goals.
Unfortunately, for a player who has played over 50 games, Callum Brown has not made enough progress compared with others in the AFL with a similar number of games.
I have always defended JT against critics who I thought overlooked his efforts, and courage. But I think a call has to be made. To have played so many games forward, and kicked so few goals in that time, is not acceptable. Moreover, his pressure, like so many in our forward line, has not been up to standard. It has taken Beau McCreery to set an example to our forwards on how to apply forward pressure.
Our backline looks fantastic again. Roughie demonstrated his importance to the cohesion and stability of our defence. IQ and Noble were brilliant.
Jack Crisp is a wonderful player. another great game from him.
Once again, we saw the impact of the ultra defensive mindset instilled in our team by Bux' coaching methodology.
It seems like in the first 15 minutes of a game, we play with tremendous energy and dare, willing to play on and use the corridor, but as we fatigue and the opposition recovers, we revert to the old holding pattern of slow, indirect sideways and backwards ball movement. We seem to be the only team in the competition which engages in this ugly, ineffective mode of play. We have been doing this since 2014, (except for 2018), so by now it is a deeply ingrained trait which only good coaching (as in 2018 under the now gone assistant coaches) can eradicate.
I think this game had more positives than most for the last 6 or 7. Our pressure was intense throughout, and there was a determination and desire to win that has been absent for a while.

You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either!
Taking the result and your opinion on the coach, I think the resounding positive today are Poulter, Mcreery and a step forward by Wilson. Unfortunately complete countered by the Brown brothers and Thomas...

YES YES YES!! I would be be and I thought I would be and the Miochec dropped a soda that could have won the game or at least drawn it. YES I would have been jumping for joy ,but not for the way they played for 110 minutes of the game, beautifully summed up by the stuffing around in the backline culminating in Roughy getting spoiled and embarrassingly conceding a goal.
