If, for political reasons, she thinks she can't stay in lockdown for that long, she's got to hope vaccination will do the trick. The Doherty Institute modelling is to the effect that vaccination targets only work with low case numbers and depend, in any event, upon additional public health and social measures for their effectiveness, so it will be interesting times for her government.

Meanwhile, the numbers in the US are creeping back up, despite vaccination levels - 158,000 new cases and 1,055 new deaths in the last 24 hours, there. It's a high-risk strategy for her to break ranks.
If we do get on top of this latest outbreak, I hope Dan & co have learned something about keeping the virus out. If not, then nothing/nobody to come out of NSW until 2022, at the earliest.

^

That doesn't work.

Apart from all the people in border communities who share services and facilities either side of the border, there's also all the truck drivers constantly moving back and forwards, people needing medical attention etc.

We can't continue with these closed borders

^ you are right. It doesn't work, but neither does States adopting different strategies. You can't have "zero-cases" living next to "jab-in-the-arm" harmoniously.

Army is there to act as support eg. logistics, medical. Only have power to detain if a national emergency is declared.
The army are there so they have 100 police and 200 army instead of taking 300 frontline police away from their daily duties protecting the rest of the state.

NSW not only used the ADF but SES volunteers to man roadblocks last year.

I got pulled over for the first time since I've been up here today, but not on the border but 30kms away simply for being a Melburnian in regional Victoria. The cops were returning from the direction of the border so imagine they were doing the same thing, just running random stops during the day then headed home when they scanned my number plate. Was funny cos I saw them then watched the rearview mirror, they got a fair way before it registered though.

Although these guys were from Metro Melbourne, I nearly felt like asking if they'd quarantined for 14 days before coming to Regional Victoria  But decided not to be a smart arse today.

All good, they asked me some questions, I couldn't really prove most of what I was saying and they let me go and told me to go home and update my address on my licence!

Luckily my work i.d was accessible on my phone so I could prove I was a permitted worker, although all it said was I was a part of the organisation, nothing else

So should you have been in the Regional area? If not why were you?
I work in both Metro and Regional but I am doing my best to try and juggle work so i am not in the Metro as much and then making sure I do not go anywhere that I don't need to be when back in the regional area.

Yes, my workplace is in regional Victoria, I now live there. But I’ve never updated my licence because it’s only a short term contract. But the organisation is state wide but my work is only in one office.

From Victoria's VicGovDH twitter:
There are 57 new cases reported today with 55 local cases and two cases acquired overseas. Of the locally-acquired cases, 49 are linked to known outbreaks and 25 have been in isolation for the entirety of their infectious period.
So, 6 mystery cases and 30 "wild".
