Thank heavens we are NOT like the Bluescum, what they have just done to Lyon is beyond belief, treated him like shit. What a disjointed, utter rabble they are, as Caro said, "they make Collingwood look positively serene, and intelligent." Carlton is the death valley of Coaches, just ask Teague.

Im rapt we got this bloke, his CV is amazing, hes just what we need, as both Johnno Brown and Jack Riewoldt said, jack actually raved over him, said he was fantastic at the Tigers, taught hiim a lot, hes very impressed, as is everyone else.

What did Carlton do to Lyon? They appointed a sub-committee to guide the process, and he then pulled out. I just assumed it was for the same reason he did with us: he knew he wasn't going to get it.

The key could be a few blue boys agreeing to work on his farm a few days a week

So Carlton have effectively sacked Teague for nothing then, with a year to run on his contract?

Seems so, they thought Lyon was a fait accompli, a shoe in, but their President stuffed it up, according to both Caro and Whatley, put obstacles in his way, and he walked. They also said that Cripps, Walsh and two other players told this President they wanted Teague to stay on, but he ignored them. One big cockup, typical Carlton.

Whe cares anyway, let the loser stew, in their own juice, we have a bloody great Coach ourselves, pick of the crop, according to Johnno Brown, Dunstall, etc, thats our main concern, all that matters. :)

Lyon wouldn’t work with Liddle. Not many can and that’s why they were and still are so keen for Brian Cook to join them.

Silvagni ( great mates with Lyon ) warned him off the position while Liddle remained in charge. If you don’t get the board and administration right, then you have no hope of going anywhere as a club. Ditto StKilda.

There is a precedent for what happened with Lyon at Carlscum. Ranald Macdonald, New Magpies president offered the Coach's job to John Kennedy but didn't make that clear to the coach interviewing panel. When the Panel (Len Thompson and two others) began interviewing John Kennedy he walked away. He believed he had already been offered the job. We may not have won a flag in the 80s with Kennedy but he would have been more likely than John Cahill whose success had been in the then lower standard SANFL.

Well wasn't that a sliding doors moment?
Wonder if Matthews would still been offered the assistant coach role for 1986?
And who would have still been in the main job by 1990?

Now there's talk of Carlton trying to poach Chris Scott.

I like the way Scott is playing them too; "Will I take on the cruisy AFL role with Gil, or coach these flogs... hmmm decisions... decisions..."

Carlton again getting bent over the barrel, like they deserve...
