Vale Pele - the greatest of them all

Diego was my favourite - the most exquisitely-talented player I have seen, followed closely by Cruyff - but that's because most of what Pele did was before my interest in soccer, so I defer to people who saw him play. There are not too many players who have been the star of 3 winning World Cup teams, though.
