Hmmnnnn..… …….…I remember a few Nicksters wanting him sacked a few years ago. Funny how the wheel turns.

But not the ones who understand recruiting / drafting will never be an exact science. Hine has had his misses but when you stack up his win / loss ratio against others, it’s up there amongst the best. People need to understand his job is to identify ( mainly ) junior talent. He doesn’t manage the salary cap, nor is he gifted those low picks very often because we’ve been more competitive than most in recent years. Its also not his job to develop that talent once he gets it through the door either.
In a highly specialised industry, we lucky to have a talent identification manager who knows the game as well as he does.

Derek Hine - time for a change?

Post by DT »

I've closely followed our recruitment over many years and I am very worried about the direction of our list. We cannot change past mistakes of which 2013 is the worst but other clear errors of not recruiting falls is being repeated along with trading out draft picks.

I think Hine has been a good recruiter but it is time for a fresh approach. I wonder if we could get Jason Taylor back from Melbourne?

We really need to nail the recruitment and strategy now if we want to be competitive in a few years.
