As far as I can tell, he's been retained on the rookie list.

A definite project player as it will take some time to re-program him from his basketball 'mentality'.

For a big guy, he does move well, even with his jerky, basketball gait. His leap is his main weapon, even from a standing start, and is rarely beaten in ruck contests.

Had a knee scare mid way through 2004, but recovered to see out the season and play a role in the reserves finals campaign.

Will need a lot of improvement in 2005 if he is to be elevated to senior ranks, but is worth persevering with.

Long strides, head bobbing up and down, looks like he's struggling.

Maybe you should go and watch him play and you'll see what I mean.

Saw him at training today and made the following observations:

-David Fanning: Fit and tall, looks in great nick. Has nice skill for a big man and is very agile and moves well. Did plenty of ruckwork.

No relation from what we hear, 35.

Good to see him get a run in the squad. Lets hope he uses his oppotunity in the best fashion possible.

Just to let you know there is a relation there, it is distant, but they are from the same Fanning blood line.

!!!!!!!!! 3rd D. What are you on about mate! At 5ft 8 in the old money I've certainly never rucked in my life.

Remember one day copping a whack from an opposing ruckman and cracking it big time, (as I was captain at the time) I told our ruckman to back off, I'd take this one. Charged in like Crackers Kheenan on Coke and he reached over me and whacked the pill about 30 yards back over my head. Didn't I feel stoopid!

Like what I've seen of Fanning though, he has good agility for his impressive size, the challenge is for him to learn to get into the right spots around the ground. Seemed to have worked that out a bit the other night. 2 meters tall and talented is a rare commodity.
